Rancho Las Brisas 55+

Rancho Las Brisas is a small gated 55-and-over community in the southwest valley, in ZIP code 89147 across from Spanish Trail. It has about 180 detached single-family homes built between 1990 and 1996, and residents share a clubhouse, pool, spa and tennis courts.

History of Spring Valley

Spring Valley was mostly open desert west of the Strip until the 1970s. One early landmark was Stardust International Raceway, built in 1965 to draw high rollers to the Stardust hotel. It had a 3-mile road course and a quarter-mile drag strip. Pardee Homes bought the raceway land in 1970 and began building a subdivision it called Spring Valley, for its view of the Spring Mountains. Houses now cover the old track.

In May 1981 residents asked the Clark County Commission to make the area an unincorporated town, partly to head off annexation. The town started at about one square mile and now covers about 33. Spanish Trail, one of the valley's early guard-gated golf communities, opened its country club in 1984. The Lakes, built around man-made Lake Sahara, went up from the mid-1980s, and Canyon Gate's golf course opened in 1989.

Chinatown Plaza opened on Spring Mountain Road in February 1995, and the state designated the Chinatown district in 1999. Spring Valley's population went from about 52,000 in 1990 to more than 215,000 in 2020.
