History of Anthem & Inspirada
Anthem was a Del Webb project in the hills of south Henderson. In November 1997 the city annexed its first 2,535 acres of vacant land. Del Webb got the land through exchanges with the Bureau of Land Management, including a 1999 trade in which it gave up 147 acres at Lake Tahoe, Thunderbird Lodge among them.
Home sales began in mid-1998, and Anthem held its grand opening on October 24, 1998. It opened in three parts: Anthem Country Club, Sun City Anthem for buyers 55 and older, and Coventry Homes at Anthem. The country club's golf course opened in April 1999. About a year after opening, Del Webb had sold more than 1,000 homes.
Inspirada, about 2,000 acres in south Henderson, was planned in the mid-2000s by a group of homebuilders that included KB Home, Pardee, Toll Brothers and Beazer. The housing crash stalled it by 2008. The builders relaunched it in August 2014, and by 2016 it ranked among the 10 best-selling master plans in the country.
