Southern Highlands

Southern Highlands is a master-planned community of about 2,300 acres in the southern foothills of the valley, in unincorporated Enterprise. The Olympia Group started it in the late 1990s (it was first called Olympic Highlands), and it is roughly bounded by Cactus Avenue, Dean Martin Drive, Jones Boulevard and New Providence Street. It has many separate neighborhoods, several of them guard-gated, plus parks, two shopping centers and its own 24-hour security patrol. At its center is the private Southern Highlands Golf Club, which opened in 1999.

History of Southern Highlands & Silverado Ranch

The south end of the valley along Interstate 15 was thinly settled into the 1990s, with horse property along roads like Windmill Lane. Silverado Ranch is not a single master plan. It is a group of subdivisions built from the mid-1990s on, around Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

Southern Highlands began with a land swap. An Arizona company, the Olympic Group, closed the first phase of an exchange with the Bureau of Land Management in October 1996 and the second in April 1997. The project was first called Olympic Highlands but was renamed Southern Highlands by late 1998 after the U.S. Olympic Committee objected. The Southern Highlands Golf Club opened in 1999, and the community grew to about 2,300 acres. Its developer now goes by the Olympia Companies.

The I-15 corridor filled in during the 2000s. Nevada 146 was renamed St. Rose Parkway in 2001. South Point opened at Las Vegas Boulevard and Silverado Ranch Boulevard in December 2005, and the M Resort opened farther south on the boulevard in March 2009.
